US Forces after US Withdrawal

I've just finished a skirmish game where US forces withdrew on turn 45, all fine, they disappear and I'm left with only the Afghan units. I went to the reinforcement screen to see if I could acquire an extra supply truck to find that, lo and behold, I had the option to buy any of the US units including Apaches, Chinooks and all the high value toys. Better yet the costs had reverted to the values for the start of the game. Is this intentional? If so I'd be curious to know the rationale behind it.
