"Grexit" scenario glitch or bug ?

I have finished the "Grexit" scenario. Total victory and all objectives completed green but...

There is "the award" (secondary) for the capturing Ioannina in 20 turns = Italian Army should attack the Greek positions but... :?:

The Italian Army were almost total stationary! Only the one - brave! - unit/division started to attack Greeks!

Strange and never encoutered before (after 6.1.8 )...so glitch or bug? It was kind of funny regarding The Italian Army "morale"...but I'm pretty curious :?: Anyone?

I'm not staff but I did take a look and see. The trigger seems to be in order:

But if you notice, the order to the Italian army is just to "Defend Hex" which is pointing to just inside the Greek border. So they are not in attack mode, really, and that is counter to the impression that is given by the objective text "Cutting off the supply route of the Greek First Army in Albania will allow the Italian Army to advance into Greece" and the popup message "Greek forces in Albania have been forced to a halt with the appearance of German forces in their rear. As the talks of their surrender begin, the Italians have renewed their own offensive."

So it's not a glitch or bug, I don't think, but an oversight in design. Or maybe it was intentional, given the popular perception of Italian army performance in WWII. This could be the designer's concept of an Italian "offensive."

Maybe, but -before- the 6.1.8 patch the Italian Army just did all-out attack there. I thought about the changing the concept to display the puny Italian offensive it's possible and understandable.
And there is -one- brave Italian division that attacked anyway
I'm just rather curious, if even a glitch/bug it's not fatal...

Here are the Defensive Positions associated with that Defend Hex order. They extend further into Greece and are still within the 12 hexes indicated as the radius.

And I did a simple test of Defend Hex with a Defensive Position indicated and it operated as designed. So there is not much more than I can offer other than, awhile back, somebody said something about the game overriding such an order if it thinks its primary VPs or supply points are in jeopardy. Or maybe there is no enemy near those Defensive Positions.

To your point, though, perhaps the designer should have used "Move to Hex" or "Seek and Destroy" to ensure that the Italians actually attack.

Yes "seek and destroy" seems more reasonable effect. But "move to hex" seems more like "the Italian style" there

Actually I have like three different recollections of this particular mission: :D
The very first time there was some bug with this objective and it didn't work at all. On a later playthrough, it was fixed and as shiroronin said, the Italians went "all-in" attacking. And some time after that (maybe it was the v5.x OoB release), I've also experienced the reluctant attack of just a few Italian units.

No idea if there were some changes made to the scen or maybe the AI itself...or not at all. The AI is known to behave erratic and be temperamental...

(PS: I hope I didn't lost all credibility memory-wise after "Java" )

I have played this twice and noticed the same behaviour. In the first time the Italians went to attack as they should (v. 2.9.9). In the second time they did nothing (v. 5.2.9). I didn't expect that and had practically no units in the area so a hasty battle group was sent to remove the Greeks. If nothing has been changed on purpose, one of the patches apparently added this change in Italian behaviour. Might be tricky to solve...

That could never happen. :)

And now back to World Cup with Costa Rica vs Serbia.

Yeah, maybe the "defend hex" team orders became somewhat more "conservative".
But I think the solve with "seek&destroy" and "move to hex" should work quite nicely, actually.
