i've been trying to order stuff for two days, but their ordering system is unresponsive, and they don't answer emails...

Can't answer directly....but I queried my last order because they added VAT to the postage, which you can't do when selling retail. I guessed they might have cash flow issues at the time.

I got an answer from them via e-mail just this morning. Took them a day (I sent it late thursday).

Bobm - I know exactly where you are coming from. I had prices bumped up and money taken from my account without any authorisation and also the VAT on postage. This was then followed by mails saying I could either like it or send the models back for £7-9 postage out of my own money.
Would never order from them again personally but I guess everyone has different experiences.

Although there is no VAT on postage from the Post Office, there is VAT payable on the delivery to you. They're selling you
the delivery, not the stamps - different things to the eagle eyes of HM R&C.

True but as a primarily retail supplier they are
required to quote prices including VAT.

...you've got it. My wife works for trading standards. They have regular clamp downs on
retailers adding VAT.

yup. and that VAT should come out if you're overseas. a bunch of figures i ordered where cheaper because they're sending them to me in new zealand.
it's then my responsibility to declare GST to nzl customs. which of course i'm happy to do.
no, really...
