Error Posting to PHP

Hi, I'm getting this error when I post to the forums or write a PM.
[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/includes/functions_messenger.php on line 429: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable
[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/includes/functions_messenger.php on line 212: Illegal string offset 'entopic_notify'
Recoverable fatal error: Object of class template could not be converted to string in /home/slitherine/public_html/forum/includes/functions_messenger.php on line 212
I think the error is in the screen build after the post as the message is uploaded to the DB as I can see it if I reload the thread. Until I understood this I was resending multiple identical PMs as I thought the message hadn't been sent. I can see this behaviour in others posts so I suspect they have the same issue (see gamercb post at bottom of page 12 and into 13 here: viewtopic.php?f=494&t=84764&start=240) and others have commented on the same error (see RagnorOneTooth and Cunningcairn here: viewtopic.php?f=494&t=84764&start=240), so I know I'm not alone in this.
