King of Kings a bit lumpy

Following my earlier problems with my Dell all in one i have upgraded to a PC with a real graphics card (GTX 1050 Ti) i7 3.6GHz.
Everything was going smoothly until King of Kings. This seems to be smooth some of the time then lumpy (movements stagger then continue).
Sometimes the program troop movements are smooth and at other times part of the move is smooth, then a hesitate, then move smoothly again. There is also an occasional hesitate to the right mouse click on my moves.
Settings are normal shadows and AA off. Frame rate when nothing is happening around 60/61. Resolution 1920 by 1080.
The frame rate generally drops to 30-40 at the start of a computer move then mostly goes back up to 60 during or at the end of the move.
Sometimes the frame rate will drop from 60 to 40 at the start of a computer move then stay there for some moves (or perhaps until i move some of my troops when it is my turn).
During this lumpy operation the casualty figures with rise smoothly then stop then continue rising smoothly again.
I have not seen this on any other campaigns.
It is almost like the program is calculating what to do next and slows down the graphics while doing that.
Any thoughts?

sorry, nothing but quess work without a report, thanks,...
How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:
1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.
once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

If there is additional scripted logic then it could cause a slowdown as you are seeing. Or it could be the composition of the map or units.
Cheers

There isn't.

I note you are talking about during AI turns. This is expected really - the AI is doing calculations and generally a lot of work. I am not sure why it is pronounced in this specific scenario, but it is to some extent expected behaviour.
Cheers

DxDiag as requested
I am currently about 5 battles into Mithridates of Pontus and as with other campaigns there is no sign of this effect.
So far it has only happened with King of Kings

Does this happen with all of the battles in King of Kings or only the large ones?
I did a quick test on the first battle and got exactly the same frame rates in King of Kings and Mithridates. (With both battles being around 1200 points)
Are you sure your computer wasn't doing a virus scan or other intensive background operation when you played King of Kings? Have you got a saved game you could try again?

I cannot remember when it starts in King of Kings, it could well be the 2nd or 3rd battle.
It is certainly quite bad at the end. I do have a saved game and reran it and the same thing happens.
Only have windows defender.
It is repeatable (at least on my PC) on King of Kings and has not happened during the (so far) six battles of Mithridates or in previous campaigns.
It is a bit strange that the frame rate gets stuck on 30-40 at the end of a computer move until i move something then it goes back to 60.
It also staggers on some right clicks - cannot remember if it is before the selected action happens or before the menu comes up.

I will send you a PM with my email address. Perhaps you could be kind enough to send me the saved game. (The easiest way to find it is to load it in, save it again and it will then be the most recent .LSF file in /Documents/My Games/FieldofGlory2/SAVES)

Ok, i will also work out a couple of troop movements that trigger the problem

I have a saved game. Generally the frame rate starts at 60 after a fresh start and load.
When i click end turn and confirm there is a little bit of action in the centre then the left group starts.
When the Fierce Nomad archers (16) start the rising casualty figures (30) staggers.
At the end of the move the frame rate sometimes stays at about 40 even though the computer turn has finished, other times it will return to 60.

I have tried running the turn and am not seeing any "lumpiness". I suspect that this may just be due to my machine being faster, as there was in fact a dip in frame rate (from 80 to 54) when unit 16 moved.
I don't know why this campaign should be affected more than others, unless it is something to do with there being massed horse archers on the battlefield, which might result in more processing being required to determine potential targets etc.
(The reason I can see frame rates higher than 60 is because I am running the game in Windowed mode)

I have noticed that my PC really suffers bad stuttering when I have units in fields in desert terrain. The King of Kings campaign has a lot of battles in desert terrain, maybe this might explain Stephen's problem?

Possibly. If so it is because of the large number of obstacle objects.

I've also noticed a similar stuttering from time to time. I would also describe my PC as high spec too.
It's not a major problem, sometimes the units freeze briefly, other times there are moving at a very rapid rate!

We have identified some unnecessary processing that may be a major contributor to this effect, and will be eliminating it from future versions.
