Install to memory stick

Hi, this is really a lazy question because I guess I could just try and see, however

Is it possible to either just run off the CD's or install to a memory stick. The reason I ask is that I am not allowed to install my own software on my company laptop but it would be really cool to be able to play the game while out on business trips etc (much healthier than sitting in the bar).

I guess any sort of install, even to a memory stick, could be caught by the "IT" department because of registry entries but if i could install to memory stick and save my settings and progress there I could uninstall from the PC its self in order to get rid of the evidence and then carry on by re-installing next time.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmmmm. I think (and I have not tried this!) that if you can install the game onto another machine, then copy across the install directory, it should play fine. You will of course need the CD in the drive. You would need to use the other installed version to patch etc though I would imagine.

One small issue would be that the cache would not be optimised to the laptop - but deleting the cache dir will force a rebuild.

This doesn apply to versions which are directly downloaded - they would need to be installed.

Good luck!

Cheers

Pip

I imagine installating/running from a memory stick would be EXTREMELY slow ;-) And getting one large enough (1GB) isn't cheap...

I tried something similar, and it seriously slows down loading times, but doesnt have a major impact in game. For instance, while loading the map after depolyment, it takes forever, but once you are playing, its fine.
