Does this game use Slitherine's PBEM+ multiplayer system?

The store page says "play with your friends online". Does this mean we can only play multiplayer with our Steam friends? Or, is there a matchmaker system, hopefully Slitherine's wonderful PBEM+, so we can play against anybody online who owns the game.

same question of lancier, i just opened a game with password to test if i can play hotseat
(if i remember the server will delete unplayed games after a while, but i might be wrong)

Hmmm...It seems I have 6 multiplayer games that don't work. They seem to be stuck..pushing the play button does no good. I have 1 multiplayer game that is working just fine. What is up?
Does anyone else experience this?
