7PzD Ghost Division 1940-41 Campaign V2

Hello all,
Here a new (version) campaign to play Rommel's 7PzD during Fall Geb in 1940 (Dinant, Flavion, La Sambre & Arras), Barbarossa (Alytus/Olita, Senno, Yartsevo) and Typhoon (Viazma, Klin, Yakhroma) in 1941, with 16+ core units; each one representing a battalion:
Pz Regiment 25, Abt 1, 2 & 66 (3 armors)
Schtz Regiment 6 & 7 with 3x mot battalions each (6 infantry)
Art Regiment 78 with 3x Mot Art battalions (3 artillery)
Pz Aufklarungs Abt 37 (1 recon)
PzJgABt 42 (1 37mm AT mot)
PiBtl 58 (1 engineer mot)
le FlakAbt 59 (1 20mm AA mot)
I designed it to be medium/difficult but not hard, there's no extra units to buy except for the air units and you'll have to take care of your ressources points.
Spec points don't work with the campaign editor so i added 10 points after scen 1. Spec points are only available then through secondary objectives.
Here a wetransfer link to download it (until 5 june 2018):
https://we.tl/A2WHdoX5rt
Note that i tested every scenario but not the campaign as a whole.
Let me know what's your impression about it.
Best,
JCE

Cool. Thanks!
Are the first four scenarios named the same? If yes, it should be possible for me to continue playing with my previous savegame and core (?)

Hello Gabeknight,
The 4 first scenarios are the same but you'll have to restart the campaign from scratch. I though to add the 6x additional scenarios as a new campaign importing the previous core units but we loose so much experience in the process (60-70%) that's not worthwhile.

There is a bug in the first scn.
I was able to destroy French tank by one of my Pz 38(t) but objective isn't marked green.
I didn't receive Spec Point, too.

Unit Killed/Removed -> (missing unit)
Why not to place an airstrip of the German side rather than Off-map Air Supply ? I forgot a plane outside the map during some tours and the Air deploy hex are hard to see in the forest.

Hello Kondi, Terminator,
Yep i missed this french tank trigger on last build, it's fixed now.
That's true there's no airport for german side on each scenario, i tried to place an airport only when there was one historically (as far as i know) but that's a good idea to place some airstrip. So i placed an airstrip called "7PzD HQ" on every map and did a new build to download with these two improvements, Version 2.1 (available until 1 april 2018):

Thanks for your tests!

Just for your information: as I've already suspected, if you
don't change the scenarios folder/names, it's
no problem continuing the campaign with the
new scenarios from the last savegame of Mission 4 (last END TURN save!). You have to replace the campaign and scenario files in the
old folder structure.
Thanks again, I'll continue with your campaign soon, as I'm about to finish the Burma Road DLC.

JCE,
First six scenarios were all good. All the secondary objectives fired except for one and that failed because I missed killing one tank. However, the jump from scenario 6 (Senno) to scenario 7 failed (Campaign V2.1/Game version 5.2.9). Tried a couple of times and it just won't continue. Any ideas?

Hello Kgambit,
I found the error, a small one but blocking (the scenario was called Iartsevo (name used on google maps) but in the campaign file i named it Yartsevo (name used in historical document).
Here a new link to download the campaign v2.1 with the right spelling (until 4 april 2018):
https://we.tl/uNRZTbNVmP
You can change the name of the scenario in the campaign editor too ("Iartsevo" in place of "Yartsevo" and for the scenario file "7PD-7-Iartsevo" in place of "7PD-7-Yartsevo").
To Gabeknight, thanks for the advice it could help to save a lot of time.
Best,
JCE

"7PD-5-Alytus"
suggestions
- The turn limit was really tight, you may want to add some turns
- I had no idea what you meant with the sec. obj. "destroy HQ" until I've looked it up in the editor. You should add some description to make that more clear, IMO
- The final tank to complete the sec. obj. "destroy all tanks" was well hidden and I only found him with #orbital near the end. Its path was probably blocked by the dense forest hexes and thus it never engaged. I suggest to reposition this tank.

"7PD-6-Senno"
This scenario on the other hand was quite easy in comparison and the turn limit was plenty. I suppose, I was a bit lucky with this one, as I've deployed my forces as needed to counter the enemy's large-scale armoured attack just in time.
suggestions
- The briefing text could use some markers to mentioned towns or those should at least be on the map. I found myself trying to find some locations where to expect counter-attacks from. Shouldn't be that confusing. And I think there was somethin similar within the previous scenario's briefing, too. Bear in mind, I've never been there and I don't know the town's names and locations by heart.
- The sec. obj. "find out what unit is attacking" is confusing as I had no clue what to look for and I found out by accident only. Why not rename it into something like "find... HQ"
- You should increase Senno's supply output to include all nearby defending units (it was too easy to encircle and "drain" that whole position!)

Overall I'd say, that your scarce RP management makes this quite a challenging campaign, to be honest. Far harder that the official ones. Starving me with practically no income between missions to repair my battered units. With 8 RP/turn there's not much to be saved up, too. I don't like to be deprived buying some useful fancy new units or upgrading my core units. And I really had to watch my moves too cautiously all the time as to not damage my units too much. Could never afford to repair expensive units. Similar like the Waffen-SS units early in the Blitzkrieg DLC. I know it's a balance question, but in my opinion rather add some more enemy units than cutting into mine. It's your choice of course, but you want your campaigns to be played and enjoyed by other, more casual, players too, right?
Nevertheless I liked your maps and scenario design. Good action. Thanks.

Hello Gabeknight,
For Alytus battle, historically it was (from what i read) the most difficult battle on the eastern front in 1941 for the 7PzD so i designed it to be difficult (a lot of soviet tanks, not so much turns to do it).
I used the Airstrip unit as HQ units in all my scenarios for the 7PzD as for soviets so when you'll see a soviet airstrip it will probably be a soviet HQ of the soviet division/corps involved in the battle.
All the soviet tanks are in search & destroy mode exception of two units in defend mode on the nrth and south bridge, i have no clue why this tank was south of Sudvajai.
For Senno, the 7 PzD was taking a defensive position and break a badly managed soviet couterattack so this scenario should be easier as soon as you see that soviets will attack in force only from the north - the soviet attack is a mess (as it was historically) and i gave more turns to the german player to have time to get all the primary objectives (if he didn't figured out the northern attack since the beginning).
You can get the locations (secondary objectives) from the objectives panel which form a line - i know it's not obvious as the secondary objective "find out what unit is attacking" but it's done on purpose, to get a feeling of uncertainty proper to every armed conflict.
I guess Senno will be the easiest scenario from the 6x eastern front ones.
I know the campaign is not easy and not based on the vanilla's ones as i used a fixed core to simulate the 7 PzD - i tried to get some nearly historical situations and that's why i didn't put too much soviet troops and limited the ressources for the german player instead. I think you can repair every unit but at the cost of their experience & it will be clearly difficult to get some new units along the campaign.
I guess my campaign is more like the Moscow or Kursk vanilla scenarios where you really have to stick with the objectives and don't engage the soviets all along the frontline. This will be really the case with the next scenarios (Viazma, Yakhroma).
Take care and thanks for your feedback!
Best,
JCE

I prefer the system with airstrips. In this case the old system with off-map supply air could be deleted (red arrows) ?
The first air-strip is maybe a little too much near the limit of the zones of control. The place indicated by the arrow blue would maybe be better ?

Hello Jeff00t, Terminator,
I udated my first post with this new dowload link (until 16 april 2018):
https://we.tl/iEJGKnJ2UI
I will keep off-map air supply as it will be best to have two options rather than only one especially with airstrips as they can handle only one exit per turn.
Dinant airstrip is not threatened so its location is not really relevant.
Don't hesitate (anybody) to post a comment if you end the campaign, i think every trigger work fine but the overall balance is perhaps not as wished (medium/difficult).
Best,
JCE
