when a commander is lost, how to measure distance for friendly BG seing it?
from commander base to BG?
from BG whose comander was with to BG?

If first is the wright answer
then we should carefully choise where we put the commander

From the BG he is with when he is lost. If he is stood by himself he cannot be lost or at least not seen to be lost.

Page 112 is the reference.

"Measure from the nearest part of the BG he was with, after removing his base and putting any troop bases he displaced back in their previous position"
