Possibly a stupid question, but I can't see why I should want to upgrade my OOB DLC's to box. Can anyone explain?

in the past, many have asked for boxes eg hard copies of games, so boxed version have been brought out for those who wish to have a box and keep it on there shelves as for looks or collections, while some like it, others like yourself and me, prefer the digital download and nothing else, it's offered as a choice to those who may want it, as quite a few do, that's why it's offered.

Thanks, if I like a game I've always bought the download AND boxed versions so that if I need to install the game on a new computer in the future, I can use the disk if the download link no longer works if the company has gone bust or whatever.
In other words, a disk is forever but a download link could vanish into cyberspace.
That's my theory anyway, but can you tell me if the disk will always still work in the distant future if I need to type in my licence key codes to install it?
I mean, if the company no longer exists, will the disk and codes still work?

yes, to install, but and it's a big but, it's not or won't be the latest version, and in some, won't even or could even be or have been superseded by another installer for some game, just as a side note, so while the disk is always nice to have, imo it's always handy to also have the latest patch and installer loaded somewhere, for me this is where free cloud storage comes in, as many places now offer it, i use more than a few of them, and store backups there, just in case, as it's better than filling my own space up and will be there for ever and a day, only when needed it's used, but takes so little to back up and store, it's something iv'e done for a long time, saves space and also saves me backing it up and then making another back up, just in case the back up dies etc.

Thanks, it's getting a bit techy for me, I'm just a grunt wargamer..
For example what's Cloud? And what if Cloud goes bust, won't you lose all your upgrades and patches and backups?
Why not simply burn them to a disk which will last forever?

if i burn them to disk, i can't keep upgrading them, each and every time a newer update comes out,

with the cloud, it's free storage on someones server anywhere in the world, and they pay mega money to make sure they don't also loose anyone data, so it's safer and costs nothing to store for me, and it's much safer than my own hardware etc.

and disks and hard drives can get broken.

I see your point mate,; if you've got a lot of games you don't want the workload of continually having to burn upgrades to DVD, but I've only got a small number of games that I like, so burning the occasional upgrade is not a big chore for me.
As for Cloud, if you're happy to entrust your priceless collection to a complete strangers server, I admire your guts!
So thanks for your sage advice, I think this sensational thread has just about run its course and to sum up it won't do any harm for me buy boxed versions of games I really like (it's only money) as well as the download versions, and i'll burn the odd patch and stuff to DVD..

i use one drive and drop box, and another from my ISP, totally free and have 1.5 Tb of online storage atm
