It's Eesti 's 100 Year centenary today. To celebrate, I thought I'd link to my scenario featuring the Battle of Tallinn :-)

Estonia has had a few ups and downs over the past 100 years but they're now one of the most forward looking and digitally savvy countries in the world!

If you get a chance, you should go and visit, it's a lovely place!

No. :x

No, before one enjoy the wonders and beauty of Estonia, one must fight for it!

Fight by playing... and WINNING... the Battle of Tallinn, an excellent scenario!

Actually, Bruce, that is a nonsensical statement in that the Battle of Tallinn is between two historic oppressors of Estonia: Germany and Russia! You fool!

Ah, don't be so hard on yourself, Bruce. Your intentions were good and so is the scenario. Relax, play OOB and enjoy yourself! And don't forget your meds, OK?

Actually, Shards, you've got the historian in me going. History is a big part of the appeal OOB has for me. So I checked some things out.

First of all, it's the birthday of the independent Republic of Estonia, not Estonia itself. According to Wikipedia, "The territory of Estonia has been inhabited since at least 9000 BC." For much of that time, it was ruled by Germans, Danes, Swedes, and Russians.

However, "Estonians experienced a national awakening in 19th century. On 24 February 1918 independence was declared and later secured through [the Estonian] War of Independence."

Now there is an idea for another scenario, eh? If OOB ever expands to that era, perhaps. Or maybe a semi-fictional version using units from 20 years later.

The movie "Nimed marmortahvlil" (Names Engraved in Marble) depicts the Estonian War of Independence for those interested in the subject (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339450/?ref_=nv_sr_1). Of WW2 I can recommend 1944 (trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDMzeKymx78), which tells how Estonians were really between a rock and a hard place at the time.

The Baltic Way was how the Baltic territories secured their current independence. Very much a different game though!
