INCORRECT PASSWORD ISSUES

Hello,

I am in the Digital League and have 2 online challenges I can not accept as I get an Incorrect password message. It is very unlikely they were both wrong in setting up They are against SennaCherib and DZONVEGN. Could you please investigate. Thanks

Check for any special characters which may have been filtered from the password, or for upper/lower case issues. The likelyhood of some internal problem with passwords is quite low given how many passworded games are played daily with the engine.

Cheers

Pip

As far as we can tell the password system is working correctly. Every previous case we have come across has turned out to be due to the password being incorrectly typed in either by the challenger or the acceptor.

The likely cause is that one of you has typed the password into the game differently from how he intended - bearing in mind that the passwords are case-sensitive- or the challenger has typed the password incorrectly in his board post and/or PM.

Or, as Pip says, the password included special characters filtered out by the system.

By the way, the title of this thread suggests you may inadvertently have Caps Lock on. ;)

Also bear in mind that the font used in the game makes it quite difficult to see the difference between upper and lower case characters.

Thanks for the speedy response gents. The problem, but not the solution, has been identified. When I type the password, the input box shows capital letters regardless of what case I type in. This is not a keyboard issue as in addition if I cut and paste a lower case password it translates it to upper case in the input box.

In this font, the lower case letters look like upper case, albeit slightly smaller. A poor choice of font for this particular purpose we will admit, but it is used throughout the game and IIRC is intended to look like Roman inscriptions. We will look at changing the font in the Password input box, to make it easier to tell lower from upper case.

In the meantime:

The program is not converting the lower case you pasted in into upper case, it just looks rather like upper case because of the font. If what you pasted in is not correct, it means that it isn't what the challenger set as the password when he set the challenge - either he mistyped it when he created the password, or he mistyped it in his message to you.

I assure you that if you enter lower case letters, the program will treat them as lower case, even if they look rather like upper case.

If you and you opponent cannot now determine what the password held by the server is for these games (as it apparently isn't what he has told you it is), the best bet is for him to recreate the challenge and be extra careful how he types in the password next time.

I'll get both opponents to reissue their challenges. I do find it unlikely that they both made the same mistake.

It would appear both were wrong. Thanks Gents
