first game wheeling question

Friends,

Had my first (solo) game this evening, and I have a question regarding wheels. Am I correct that wheels may only be executed in a forward direction? (All illustrated examples in the rulebook seem to show a wheel always pivoting forwards.) Or is it possible, for example, if a battlegroup wheeling on the front left corner to wheel in a clockwise direction, or a bg wheeling on a front right corner to wheel in a counterclockwise direction? (Thus having the forward moving corner moving backwards.)
Thanks for any reply.

Wheels can only move forward - because they are advances and advances must end up with at least part of the BG further forward than the original font edge (definition of Advance in theglossary.

LH and LF can in effect wheel backwards as they can mak a Complex Move to turn 180 degrees, make a simple advance (which can include a single wheel) and then turn back 180 degrees.

As long as they pass a CMT .... just in case it sounded otherwise.

Thanks for the responses folks,

Field of Glory has been my introduction to ancients and this forum has been of great benefit in understanding the rules. I have been working on 6mm WOTR armies based on 15mm stands, of which I will post some photos when I get them on a table again.
