If you haven't discovered it yet Heavy Artillery can shoot and then change facing, but not vice versa.

Thanks for good tip. Ya you may as well plop a rock on some badguys even if the arc is off before turning.

It is hard to love immobile Heavy Artillery, but this makes them a tiny bit better.

Skirms and foot archers can pull a similar trick, changing direction, firing a full volley and then returning to their original facing. Note that this is not the same as firing a half volley. While it's less effective than if they were already facing a direction, it can be great for concentrating fire without messing up your line's facing.

Don't forget the #1 best thing about arty is they give the enemy a -1 on their cohesion checks when bundled with other ranged damage which helps make up for the weak damage from arty.
I will forever love that arty (ballista and onagers) cause of how fun it is in Rome Total War 2 where is quite devastating if the enemy can be spotted while far away.

I previously have found artillery useless until my present game when my opponent was shooting at my Indian bowmen with superior light bowmen and artillery, and eventually routed them even after I put a general with them, just from shooting. My best shot ever was in Medieval Total War 2 when I had an outnumbered force attacked by Vikings - I shot at a Viking general's group (at the rear of his army but on a hill) with a ballista and killed the general at the start of the battle, (what a lucky shot!) it changed the whole battle and gave me victory.
Question, does being superior improve shooting?

I tried it in my last game and you are right that this ability is not limited to heavy artillery.
