Can anyone give me a hand on how to employ War Wagons? Let's say you had six of them in your army. Would you put them in BGs of 2? Run them single file to cover your flanks. I don't know how useful they are, but I'd love to put some in my army.

Use them as mobile terrain to protect your flanks.

Think about them moving as often as the Forest that you would have put there if the terrain dice were good for you, then you will be OK.

They are not offensive weapons and are a pig to move, but if you want to block single units or LH from coming around your flank they are great

im interested on seeing how hussites work.. im looking at the list.. dunno what to do with it.. Ive tried using wwg once.. They just sat and protected the baggage. Now ones with light art.. i might try that next time.

I can't fathom how they would be used in a BG of 4. Two deep does nothing for them, right? And a file of four wagons would go on forever.

put 1 BG of 4 each on each flank.. making an A(kinda) other than that i dunno.. With hussites you make a fortress of warwagons and artillery with a bit of inf and cav.. I need to make about 6 more war wagons and i might have it a go.

I tried a couple of beta test games with Hussites. I used BG's of two bases. They provide a solid base for the other troops to work around. I didn't play any mounted armies and I lost most of the games. I didn't co-ordinate the wagons with the other troops very well. However, now that the list is published, they will be out again. I think once I have learned to get the knights, wagons and foot working together properly the Hussites are going to be very good.

4 deep in 2x2 means you can turn 90. Which is rather useful. Then you contract and you have filled an 8 element frontage. Couple of those and you truly have a fortress.

A rather shaky fortress, eight bases wide is going to take a lot of hits and will need some impressive death rolls. BG's of two need four shooting hits before they get losses. As a square two bases wide they can turn on the spot. The eight compulsory Hussite wagons in four pairs, side by side, led by an inspired commander are a powerful block. Putting an artillery wagon pair in the middle to stiffen the shooting would be even better. All you have to do is keep rolling the 5's or 6's on the CMT's.

Smaller BGs, most definitely are better for WWGs. Square blocks of WWGs are actually fairly maneuverable, at least turning to face enemies. I'd be curious to see them in action, which might happen soon given the madaxeman's love for the Lithuanians and the fact that Eternal Empire just came out.

Here is the Hussite test army I settled on and tried a few times. The IC keeps the BWg (Battlewagons please! ) moving. The fortified camp is needed as you get rings run around you and lose it otherwise. The knights give a bit of protection vs Impact foot attacks. The army hates pikes and isn't keen on IF/SSw Roman types but does pretty well against anything mounted and other average foot troops that don't like being shot at by artillery. The HW + in melee just makes the BWg's viable.

All Bwg BGs in 2s. They are vulnerable to combat losses but almost invulnerable to all shooting.

If they only fight with 2 bases they tend to suffer 3 hits which with the +1 still makes it a 1 or a 2 to lose a base, so not too bad.

The artillery ones are not bad with 2 dice at 6MU range, needing 5s vs foot and 4s versus mounted. Average mounted troops don't like them one bit and mounted bow armies needing 5s to hit them find life tough going IME.

The shot at vs artillery -1 on the Ct can really bother average troops.

It isn't any super army but certainly is a lot of fun and prefectly viable for top 10 finishes in 40 person tourneys I would say.

I'd like to do a Hussite army just for the fun of it. Don't know that I would take it to a tournament. How do you think it would fare against an English longbow army?

It is going to be hard for me to make the switch to battlewagon. I've been calling them war wagons so long. And a battlewagon is a battleship. I'll just have to think of them as land-battleships. Maybe we could mount 12" guns on them?

Not too bad really as the Longbows are at a - shooting as are the BWgs. It will be a slow porcess to resolve it.

How to play a lot of Warwagons against skirmishers armies ?

Skirmishers can't do a thing to battlewagons and you can reach out and touch them w/ missile weapons. Might be difficult to break them though as you will have a hard time catching up.

Sorry for the stupid question but before FOG I never heard of war wagons other than the John Wayne movie.

For my Gaul army can I just buy a bunch of wagons with ox or horse and line them up on a 40mm x 80mm base? Or are they actual war wagon models out there?

There are proper models out there but they are for those armies that had battlewagons/warwagons such as the Hussites.

Gauls don't have them I'm afraid.

Sorry I assumed Wagon Lager was the same thing

I have some Essex war wagons that I purchased from a friend. They are the ones without artillery. Does anyone have the Essex cannon-wagons? Do you like them? Do the guns have to purchased separately?

Essex warwagons.. er Battlewagons.. I bought 4 of them.. All they are, are wagons.. With some handgunners in them. Wasn't too happy with them needless to say. I have seen some awesome battlewagons.. At a DBA tourney i was in.. I forgot who made them. but their is a pic of them in the mini's in the Eternal Empire book.. I do love essex figs.. Easy to paint.. Not much to put together.. and you dont have to make spears or pikes for them.. I am a lazy gamer.. So they are perfect for me. I was looking at some xyston figs. You have to make that stuff.. Also i have some nice looking gauls i won at a DBA tourney. But you have to glue the shields on. Like i said im lazy. I picked up some nice looking Gauls for FoG at the ATC a few weeks ago.. I would like to find out who makes them.. I want to buy some more mounted so i can finish off my army.

The ones on the Eternal Empire book are from Kingmaker Miniatures. They have a complete range of Hussite figures. Here is the link http://www.kingmakerminiatures.com/catalog/
They are 28mm figures. I got a few a while back. They are very cool, especially the women armed with flails!!!
