Spartan AI

I have come across a couple of things the AI does or does not do which have got me puzzled.
First, I have noticed that sometimes the AI seems to build Mercenary Hoplites in a city to a much greater extent than the resources of that city should allow. Is the AI randonising the resources available for a city?

Second, when a city has an army as a garrison it seems to me that the army remains in that city for all time until of course that city is taken by another state. The AI does not sem either to partially or fully transfer that army or use it in any way. Only new units are used in the field when built.

I would really like to see what is going on from turn to turn in any city i do not control. Are there any debugging tools available.

I am running v 1.7 on hard, its also a modded version. Im not asking you to find me a "fix" just point me in the right direction and allow me find out what is happening myself. Thanks

The AI stores resources in a different way to the human player. It starts with large reserves and the lower teh reserves get teh less likely it is to spend them, but it is not prevented from spending them. It is encouargaged to try and replenish stocks, but if there is no supply it can result in the AI spending more than it appears it should be able to. The AI also trades extensively so could be buying in things it doesn't have.

There were debug features but you need a special exe to use them & to be honest I forget how they work!

Thanks for the reply, do you mean to say that the AI disregards the starting resources for a side in the Sides.txt file and the trading limits determined by the buildings.txt file. I know that the starting resources in the sides file for this side are too small to continuously build units as i have seen it do also the trading limit is too low to trade its way to produce these units.
Nor does it have enough silver to buy additional mercenaries or even by raising taxation to its limits as the pop is small
Anyway thanks again

The AI starting resources are set from the sides.txt file near the top. It is different to what the player gets.
