I seem to rermember that the engineer ability to lay/remove mines was made proportional to their strength in an earlier update.
Well, this 1-strength low-efficiency Soviet enigeer unit just created a 10-strength minefield.
Stalin was pleased.

I'm sure he was. Was that changed in the latest patch?

I never laid any minefields during beta, so I can't say.
