A group of 8, arranged in 2 ranks, 4 x 2. How many ranks can shoot (assuming all are in range)? Only the front rank or also the second rank?
Thanks

Both ranks shoot. 1st and 2nd. With javelins you get one die per 2 bases. So they would shoot with 4 dice.

See P82 overhead shooting

only the first and/or second rank can shoot.

Also any second rank counts as shooting at the range of the first. Even if the first rank is not shooters.

Don't forget the reduction in dice (1 per 2 bases) if your javelin troops are light horse/foot though

All troops only get one dice per 2 bases with javelins

The reduction in dice for light horse and light foot only applies in melee, not for shooting.

My mistake... as you've said all lights (and all javelin) only qualify for 1 die per 2 bases in the first place, my brain just equated it with the reduction in melee... must concentrate on what the words SAY more.
