About Generals dying

I've played less than ten games, so, yes, I'm new. For the record, I play at Legate level and have yet to lose a battle, although I rage-quit the last one.

I'm wondering if some factor of the game is bugged, specifically, Generals dying in combat. I've had two cavalry Generals killed this way and in both events it occurred in the melee phase and in both events the enemy was broken and routed. I suspect the program is calculating SOME General could have died and, there being only one, the program kills him.

I've decided that I'll start moving my Generals to units NOT engaging in battle. It's truly annoying. Flanking an engaged enemy and putting him to rout and seeing YOUR general die seems counter-intuitive.

There is always a small chance that a general will die in combat, even when his unit is winning. The chance is much higher when his unit loses. Each general is tested for separately, it doesn't test for a general dying and then look for a general to kill!

So, RNG, eh? I can accept that. Another 8 battles and there's been no replication of Pyrrhic deaths, although there have still been casualties. Thank you for the replies, all.
