Sassanid Persian Ally?

So where can I find the ally list?

Good question. Apparently the writers did not feel there was enough evidence to warrant the design of a Sassanid ally list. I would, however, like to hear their perspective though.

Do the Sassanids provide allies to any other armies in the books? If not it would be pointless writing an ally list.

In the book it does not, but historically the empire was reduced to vassaldom to the Hephalite (have to check that spelling) Huns not to mention the numerous civil wars. IMHO, it would seem the civil war armies would be better represented by Sassanid allies rather than subs.

Tis true, but there is no indication that they were ever required to provide troops so no need for an ally.

So what about the Sassanid Persians that fought alongside the Avar against the evil Byzantines?

That'd be the two armies that were both fighting against the Byzantines but never actually got together and co-operated on the same battlefield - despite getting quite close to each other when the Avars besieged Constantinople?
The lists have tried to stick to actual battlefield cases.

Interestingly, the one Empire that should be able to have Sassanid allies is the "evil" Byzantines. During the reign of Maurikios he sent a Byzantine army to restore Khusrau II to the Sassanid throne after he had been overthrown by Vahram. Khusrau accompanied the Byzantine army with his loyal retainers. Following the intial Byzantine victories over Vahram, more Sassanid nobles and ther troops went over to Khusrau. They fought alongside the Byzantine army to restore Khusrau. Not huge numbers but probably enought to allow an allied force.

That alliance we decided to cover with a Sasanid ally to Maurikios IIRC - and we appear to have thought we'd done a Sasanid ally list ...
I feel a significant errata coming on

So first "no evidence" for an ally then a change to "we appear to have thought we'd done a list".
Thats great news! Not for the Avar who wanted the allies, but for the evil Byzantine enemy who will get to field them instead.
While we are in the mood for good honest chocolate, how about those Viking beserkers?

Nik, 'They invited the Lykians as well' - I do hope you are going to apoligise to the list for that. If not, I shall be forced to deploy my one (clean) Geordie joke.

BTW should say that there will be an errata with the missing Sasanid, Bulgarian and Lykian allies done. Can't give you a date though.

They sent a load of freed Dailamite prisoners at one point led by a Sasanid noble who probably had a few chums with him.
If we had lists to cover the armies in Arabia at the time I don't think we'd cover the Sasanids with a normal allied contingent anyway.

No battle of elephants as I recall - it was The Year of the Elephant to the Arabs ('am al-fil IIRC in Arabic) due to the Axumites having an elephant with them. More importantly it is a year that was believed to be the one the prophet was born in by many.
