Two rounds of melee ?

I'm under the impression some AI units get 2 rounds of melee each turn.
I'm not talking about the charge/melee combination, neither of multiple units against one.
I noticed this several times when playing against the AI but never when playing with a human opponent.
Would there be a reason for that ?

It may be that if you have not noticed an ongoing melee during your turn and played it out then the AI resolves it before playing its own turn.....During its own turn it will then resolve the melee again...that seems the likely explanation...

That's it.
I've been refusing some melees on my turns, thinking my units would adopt a "defensive stance" and would not be pushing hard again a too strong enemy or in order to delay actions on a flank waiting for the decision somewhere else.
Thank you Devoncop

No worries...
Sadly just because we can see a melee is not going well and would like it to be "tactically delayed"....life isn't like that
Happy to help.

As you have now realised, all melees are resolved every turn. You cannot avoid them being resolved by not clicking on them.
