Dangerous Camels

Camels are underrated in real life with regards to how dangerous and savage they can be.
Maybe when Arnold knocked out a camel with one punch as Conan makes people think camels are wimpy in combat.
Here is a video that shows how ferocious camels are in a modern situation where two angry camels are trying to attack people while stuck in a car.
Now imagine tangling with those camels in a melee situation.

It's funny how mounts were a huge deal since ~1500BC, and then high RoF, high accuracy, long range guns are invented and within a century they're basically useless. Anything that quintuples your profile and is too dumb to take cover is just a liability. Though the same could be said of armor (even modern body armor doesn't work very well against direct shots from a rifle, unless it's too heavy to be practical in war).

horses are still very useful but not for open combat... one of the most successful uses of horses in recent military history was attack on Taliban by US special forces who were deployed practically as a cavalry force..Those men practically routed Taliban while being supported from air in 2001. They would be not capable doing so with standard means due to practically nonexistent road network.. Its also quite telling that such a small group of men managed to do what thousands of regular soldiers + SOF operatives cannot do today. (but of course mission back then was a bit different than it is now)

old article about them:
