It's been a while since my last purchase but I think these are available in the member's area after the purchase and I didn't see one. Or is one not included with FoG2? Or do I need to request one or something?

I just entered the key code provided on the Slitherine member's area when I registered and it worked on Steam. No problem at all.

Wow, that was a quick answer. Ok, so the key also is the steam key. Thanks very much.

You can enter the steam key into the Steam program. This allows you to play the game using the Steam engine.

Where does one enter it? What is to be gained by entering it in Steam?

Primarily the thing with entering it in steam is that any computer you have that you register with steam, all your steam games can be downloaded from a menu. You don't need to remember the license key, or which site to go to download which game. Having said that, you can survive perfectly fine without steam. Some people love it, others don't. It's just one more choice.

I have Steam, but I bought the game direct from Slitherine. I was just wondering if there was any reason for me to register it on Steam.

No real reason I can think of. I'm certain the game is exactly the same whether bought from steam or slitherine.

In a word convenience. You can (re)install it with the click of a button without having to worry about anything and Steam will also handle any updates when they become available.
