Egads! All the the time spent painting all those figs! They looked good.. I have never traveled abroad.. But someday i would like to save some money and travel to England and goto an English convention.. The games looked awsome! Maybe i can put that on the calender for 2010... One wonders how you travel overseas with mini's?

The Magnesia game was actually in Argentina IIRC.

Overseas travel with minis isn't too difficult - for 15mm ones anyway - I've done it loads of times. A popular option amongst GB players is an aluminium tool box, magnetic sheet on the bottom and in the trays and magnetic sheet on the figure bases. Always take it on as hand luggage and ensure security keep it the right way up when going through X-ray otherwise you'll cry a lot

The other option if you are travelling overseas is to arrange a loan army on arrival. We had to do a lot of this the other year when the hand baggage restrictions were severly tightened after a terrorist threat. Things are back to normal now and flying with figures is generally fine.

The only issues I am aware of are a couple of people being told that the spears on their 15mm pikemen constituted dangerous weapons (this has only ever happened on flights in and out of the US) and one unfortunate who's figure box tested possitive for explosives and had to be left behind on the way home (probably something to do with fumes from glue)

I have flown at least a dozen times with armies and have never had a problem.

Both of those features are highly impressive. I enjoyed them both very much.

But at the very bottom of the Britcon report it says "Article and pictures by Philip Bolton ©2008. Meet the photographer at trained-lens.com".

I can't make that url work at all, with or without the dash, with or without the a www on the front.

And airport security in the US is totally wacked-out and unpredictable. Many of the personnel seem to be brain-dead semi-literates. The last time I flew I was on business travel with a toolkit. They totally ignored the folding knife with the 3" blade, and freaked out over a screwdriver, the kind with the magnetic tip and multiple bits stored in a hollow handle.

And this was on a domestic flight.

As for airport security I did have a lot of explaining to do when I flew to Northern Ireland during the troubles with a briefcase containing several spare LAN adapter cards about a dozen coiled patch cables and a screwdriver like yours but with the bits in a rubber block holding 32 bits. On the X-Ray my case looked like a bomb makers workshop and the screwdriver bits looked so I am informed very much like bullets The advice of the security staff was "next time you travel to NI don't bring them!"

If you had a decent hair cut Hammy you would have got through easily. They never questioned my 2Kg of white powder and 100 syringes.

The only problem I have ever had, in a great deal of flying to tournaments both in the US and overseas, was almost missing a flight once because the security girl wanted to chat about my dollies. That's about the only time that they ever attracted positive interest from a female. I also had my dollies swabbed for bomb material in Heathrow once. Whatever.
