Can somebody explain why Iberian faction is called Spanish in FoG2? Spain is relatively new name for Hispania, first time it was mentioned in The Estoria de EspaƱa by Alfonso X of Castile between 1260 and 1274 (AD).. Romans called it Hispania, while calling the factions as Iberians, or Hispanic would be a lot more accurate than calling them Spanish..

Suspect it is because it is familiar to pretty much anyone, not just those versed in historical naming. I'd also note that for better or worse it is pretty conventional in wargames as well - all very Anglo-centric of course, but that's the way of things.

yeah, i get it, but it kinda doesnt make sense.. this way, we would call Carthaginians as Tunisians or something... I'd prefer to use ancient names, not modern for a game that focuses on Ancient warfare.

Well as Spain wasn't even a single country back then we should probably be calling the various peoples by their tribal names

I think it would be better calling them Iberians, as thats what historians usually use to name those tribes.. Plus, it kinda gives developers option to create two factions, one covering Iberian tribes and other CeltIberians.. difference was quite distinctive btw.. for anybody interested in this, definitely recommend reading work of Fernando Quesada-Sanz, who wrote several interesting articles on this topic, some of them quite groundbreaking in terms of Iberian battle tactics and their supposed adaptability on Roman warfare.

The problem is that there are already Iberians in the game, but they are Caucasian Iberians, an early Georgian state.
Personally, I would agree with you, and have the Spanish called Iberians, and call the Caucasian Iberians something else. It is very confusing to see Iberians in the army lists, and then realise that they are something completely unexpected.
