Retreating unit without fuel

What would be a proper result from a hard attack on a Sherman without fuel, under suppression. A retreat (as happens in the turn I am referring to) - but... it has no fuel....
Is it saved by hidden infantry, pushing it into safety?

I would expect that not having enough fuel to move and fight would often mean that you are on the reserve tank or part way through the reserve rather than completely out of fuel so that you had enough for an emergency retreat. However, my tank experience is limited to sitting in a Centurion turret at an army display when I was about 10 years old, so if a current or former tank crew gives you a different story, better to trust them not me.

In game, I think the tank just stays in place and can't retreat. Can't remember if it surrenders or not, but I think it just sits there.

In real life, most likely the tank is destroyed by the crew, who run away and get a new tank behind the line.
