Hi guys

As per company policy we're only allowed to reveal the price on release date, sorry!

Well how does one apply for a press key? I would love to show this off on my groups youtube.

Also what is the release time?

I figured. What about my other question? I'd seriously love to help spread the word about this game. Show off some game play. Most of the YouTubeers so far seem to not have much tactical sense. I would love to show off some footage with the game in it's best form. Give a proper review :) So how would one go about applying for a press key?

There are a number of You Tube videos up from various established game reviewers previewing and showing detailed game play using the beta version. For once I have chosen to avoid too much new game pre-immersion so as to enjoy more fully the unexpected when I get to try out its campaign myself.

That's an extremely asinine company policy that serves no one.

This does nothing but keep customers in the dark and deprive them of the one piece of information that actually matters to a purchaser's decision making. Decision making that I would like to have decided upon before the day of purchase.

This policy to me says that confidence in the game / the game's price to value ratio is not 100%. If a game company is worried that its price might bring complaints and criticism even before release then a game company should re-evaluate its price.

Withholding the price until after release is not the norm among game companies as far as I can see. Because it allows the player to be well informed about what the price will be and how his or her budget can handle it. If the player thinks that you are charging too much for a game he or she still isn't going to buy it.

I agree but I suspect their policy is a result of the sales model they use.

Slitherine has the unenviable task of trying to gauge interest in a niche game. No telling what methods they rely on. They obviously forego allowing customers to pre-buy the game, so they gather intel until the last second on where they feel like the price point should be to generate enough sales.

We shall see a week from today.

Normally I would be understanding if it was the niche game thing you mentioned but this isn't that. It's a game using a major game's name (and so far not in vein from the videos I have seen) so it could very well sell based off the BSG name alone let alone the fact it so far looks to be an amazing game. I also agree that I have never heard of a company hiding the price like this. Release time yes. Price no. Especially indie devs.

If it's normal operating procedure for the company (in this case publisher) to not reveal the price pre-release, it's far easier to not deviate from that, than it is to evaluate every game and developer to decide if the price should be released or not.

perhaps see if you can get permission to give an upper limit ballpark? like "the game will not be higher than $40" or whatever? that at least would let people start planning budgets.

I beg to differ. There aren't a lot of real time, turn based starship combat games (though that is the only game in this genre I'm interested in) and there aren't a lot of BSG games.

Regardless of trading on a familiar name, I don't think being in the BSG universe will guarantee large sales at all. If it did, there would be a much larger BSG pantheon of games than there is.

I think this is a fair compromise. As I have the same issue. I have to plan my budget for the month and if I need to work some extra hours to cover the cost of the game etc. Espeically since the game is releasing at the tail end of the month when most bills are due then or at the first of the month (the next day)
