all updates can be also updated manually if the auto connection fails, for firewall or other reasons, just login to support and your account or download from the board for the latest update

Like zak told, usually this issue is caused by the interference of a Internet security program (a firewall, an anti-virus, an anti-malware, etc.) with the game update feature.
Please check if any of your Internet security programs is interfering with the download from our ftp servers.

My Pike & Shot update works fine.
I turned off my AVG Online Shield but it made no difference, SJ update can't connect.

I've just tested and the game's update feature is just working fine.
Maybe it's another program besides AVG which can be interfering or your update feature is corrupted.
To be honest, I wouldn't waste much time in troubleshooting it, if I were you I would just download and install the patch manually.

Thanks all. I did the manual update and found that I had 1.4 already installed.
Seems strange that Pike & Shot works fine but SJ doesn't.

Similar problem here. I checked my firewall and can't find SJ on the list to unblock. As a matter of fact I can;t even find any of my games(slitherine or not) I'm running Windows 10. Is there a source(other than microsoft which is painful to follow)that can explain to me the process of letting it through my firewall? I'm also running AVG Security.

I'm not sure which firewall you are referring to, but if it's AVG I would try to check AVG site for on how to add exception rules.
Otherwise just load the updates manually from the member's area.
