Just over a year ago we announced the collaboration with DESTINYbit on their upcoming title Empires Apart.

The game has the ambition to bring the feel of classic RTS games into the modern era and it’s the work of love of true fans of the genre. It’s been a long ride and the intervening months have been full of hard work. Now that we draw closer to release, the developer needs your help to fine tune, balance and bring the project to completion.





You can join in and help us refine the game – your feedback is very important to us, and it will contribute to making the game even better. You will be joining a group of very active and dedicated alpha-testers who are already in love with the game.

I think there's no way to get the access to the beta apart from it

Is there no beta available for Mac?

@Kaisyatsy The game is already released and also is now F2P (Byzantines are the free starter civilization and the others can be unlocked via a purchase or earned through gameplay) on steam so if you are interested in it go check it out. It definitely has a Age of Empires type of feel with a few unique twists. Unfortunately, I've found the game seems to often drop connections or desync during multiplayer matches. While not anything too revolutionary the game is pretty fun versus the AI. Careful micro-management of units can allow you to achieve some nifty combat results too (particularly some of the ranged units can take on larger enemy forces if handled judiciously). The gfx style and F2P cosmetics/steam inventory integration may not be to some folks taste but they do allow for a bit of visual customization for buildings and units which is kind of neat. The game plays like a streamlined Age of Empires 2 but the random dropped multiplayer connections and lack of a real single player campaign combined with the fact that unlocking additional Civilizations via the F2P chests is fairly grindy (although doable) let down what otherwise is a pretty neat RTS. The path-finding can be a little wacky at times too with units getting confused near buildings and environment object corners or spinning near other large groups of units occasionally. I do rather like the night/day cycles, the way the tech trees are laid out and the nifty civilization mechanics for Aztec and Mongols.

TLDR: Game is already released. Go play it! Not a real replacement for classics like AoE and Rise of Nations etc. but still fairly enjoyable with excellently designed tech trees and some civilizations not seen in other games.
