Babruysk (44 East)

Hi Kameraden,

I have a question about the prestige we have gained at the end of each scenario.
For example, in the Babruysk scenario, the configuration file indicates that at the end of the scenario with DV, the prestige gained is 3000. However, when I started the next Misk44 scenario, the prestige had risen near 1000 only. What happens?

Probably a 'soft cap' penalty for a too expensive core. Have you noticed it occurring for any previous scenarios?

I agree. The softcap is probably somehow involved. You can see if the softcap is affecting your prestige by mousing over prestige counter in the upper right. If the percentage is less than 100%, then the soft cap is coming into play.

I did not understand how this penalty works ("soft cap"). In the previous scenarios I did not realize. Is that now my prestige is falling very fast and begins to count the crumbs.
Can you tell me how "Soft Cap" works?

Many, many, many posts about soft cap and the heart ache it can cause.

I have already been experiencing some pain in 41 on my Manstein run.

The simplest way to explain it is to say that for every unit on field that costs over 400 in prestige it starts effecting the prestige you earn.

This does not count for SE units as they are not factored and why it is important only to keep SE tanks.

So if a scenario allows 30 units to be deployed.

Than you can have 30 x400 or 12,000 prestige of your units deployed before soft cap starts effecting prestige earned, so overstrength is a serious factor.

You can choose to not deploy all units capable of being deployed to diminish this, or use extremely cheap units to fill in gaps, I find that helps quite a bit in 44 and 45.

Hope this helps

If it is hampering you too much and you want to get the full prestige for that scenario, you can disable the softcap by editing the gamerules file which is in the 'Data' folder using Notepad or another text editor. Near the end of the file, find the following 2 lines:

# 1=use soft cap, 0=don't use
UseSoftCap 1

Simply change the 1 to a 0 and save the file. Then, as was mentioned, mouse over the prestige counter in the upper right to see if it is working. If there is no percentage listed (e.g. 88%), then it is working and should get full prestige.

Conversely, an easier way is to use the cheat code to give yourself the difference in the amount prestige between the 100% value and what you received, although you'd need to do this at the start of every scenario. While it is a cheat code, it is no different that playing at an easier/harder level, using 'dice chess' instead of full random, or adjusting prestige and experience sliders to your preference or skill level. Do whatever it takes to make the game enjoyable for you whether that means extremely challenging or just having fun playing with all the various toys and enjoying the scenarios. One of the greatest things about this game is it can be fun and challenging over an incredibly broad range of skill levels and it is easy to adapt to your desired challenge and play style.
