Xuzhou secondary objective?

In the Xuzhou scenario there is the secondary objective of shooting down the two soviet pilots.
I destroyed the 2nd pilot while they were in the hangar and did not get the objective.
Did I miss the objective because I killed him while he was on the ground?
Was I suppose to kill the pilots when they were in the air?

My guess is that's exactly why you were not awarded the prize; you did not destroy the fighters. This is the trigger for that event (click the image):

I have place a red box around each of two items that I believe may explain this:
  • * The two fighters need to be Destroyed in a Combat Event. One of the other options in that box is Exited and I have a hunch that, when you destroy a hangar, the planes therein technically exit the map.
    * In Unit Definition, the choice is set to Fighter, not Structure. Maybe the hangar is technically a Structure and when you destroy it, its contents are merely removed by exiting the map.
In either case, you wouldn't get credit for actually Destroying the Fighters themselves. That's my guess.

So anyway, next time fight like a man, you coward! It says "Shoot DOWN both Soviet pilots" not shoot them up. Duel them in the air rather than dive-bombing them in their beds! :x

(Just kidding. In some of these scenarios, I'm so desperate that I'd hit the enemy with my virtual purse if I were provided one. )

Golly Bru, your replies are always professional and perfect for everyone.
Most probably the Soviet pilots are in the pilots lounge swapping grandiose stories with the Chinese about their dogfighting prowess trying to be the greatest braggarts like men always do, while their hangers are being bombed so probably the lounge is left unbombed and Soviets don't make it into bodybags where they belong.

And you, GiveWar, have a vivid imagination which is appreciated.
