In the latter game, Mongols disengaged successfully on the left, while on the right, the Mongol heavies held their ground and did very well in the early part of the battle. They were joined by units from the Mongol centre, and for a while I was hopeful of breaking the entire Mamluk left wing.

That didn't come to pass, because Baybars raced up with reinforcements, stabilised the situation, and ultimately crushed the Mongol pocket.

But the Mongols had inflicted a lot of casualties by then, and tied up Baybars and most of the Mamluk army for a long time. Right at the end some Mamluks launched a hasty attack on the hill, but it was beaten back.
