In some cases shooting at mounted in single rank gets no POA. What about when shooting down the flank, are the targets still in single rank or do the POA's then occur?
I'm talking about the ..."....not in single rank.." POA's.

The angle doesn't matter, they're always single or double-ranked whether the shooter is on the flank or front.

Cavalry in single rank are in effect acting in a light horse like manner, they can evade if charged and present a significantly lesser target to shooting. Think small groups whizing all over the place, not a nice neat parade ground like single rank. Cavalry in two ranks have closed up to a solid formation and are thus a bigger target for missiles.

Thanks for the replies, I got the answer I expected, however the justification regarding cavalry doesn't really apply to Knights or cataphracts ot the like in single rank - or does it? Knights are close order types not loose groups whizzing around.

Anyway it is as expected - the POA situation stands for all angles.

Correct, that is why the POA applies to cavalry in a single rank. Knights and cataphracts are most definitely not cavalry, they might be mounted but that is a completely different thing.
