Award-winning wargame designer Richard Bodley Scott is back. The mastermind behind successes like Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai, returns to his roots and is busy at work on the sequel of one of the most successful wargaming systems ever: Field of Glory.

“The first digital adaptation of the most popular ancients and medieval tabletop wargaming rules served as a stepping stone in the foundation of the Slitherine Group as we know it today”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director of Slitherine. “We are happy to have RBS working on the next iteration of this PC game as he is both the father of the original tabletop game and the creator of its new digital conversion”.

It's 280 B.C. The Republic of Rome has just finished defeating its Italian neighbours and already the Southern territories are menaced by King Pyrrhus of Epirus. Carthage, to the South-West is also a threat to the newborn Mediterranean power. In the north, the Gauls continue to see the rich Roman cities as inviting targets.

A new age of war is coming.

Set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC, Field of Glory II will accurately simulate the battles of the Ancient World, before the full establishment of the Roman Empire. Boasting a set of unique and detailed Army Lists for each faction, the game offers a wide variety of tactical choices with more than 80 beautiful and fully animated 3D models, each with multiple uniform variations.

“We really wanted Field of Glory 2 to be a big step up both in terms of visuals and in gameplay. We knew that with RBS on board, gameplay would fit well with both the historical setting and the nature of warfare at the time. For the visuals, we have put together a team that includes Pat Ward, formerly Art Director at Shenandoah and our Art Director Richard Evans. The result is a wargame that will please the fans, but also attract a brand new generation of gamers”.

Players can already join the beta of Field of Glory II by applying here.

I would love to join the beta as always did in past times, but, by now i am working hard on my board and card game designs to be ready for incoming cons in Europe; but i would like to say to every forum user to sign for the beta for working and testing with Matrix/Slitherine and all the people that work in it is an wonderful experience and the feedback has been always great.

And now take my money for this one and every incoming "field of glory II" period

+1 to this, i have all FOG army packs except the last 2 (sorry but not working over original engine made them a non buy for me... and i was curious about viking units :( ) and sure be great reward collectors, in the end we help with our euros to have FOG II.

Other question is if you are going to do like with FOG, originally FOG was a base game that you pay to have it but a few years later you release the base game with only 2 army list for free and you buy the base+army packs to mount over this "demo" version... i feel this is a good idea, a demo-free game system.

And finally something i am curious to know... do you explore use Game of Thrones (or Song of Ice and Fire, as you prefer) license in game to release an army pack??? the ambientation is correct for FOG engine and have finally a good wargame based in the books sure be great.

It is an interesting idea.

The initial release will be a full release with everything from Rise of Rome and a lot more. There are several armies that never got a FOG1 list at all.

Thanks for the info, is great have Rise of Rome + extras... for me one of the best FOG army lists (with my more used and favourite armies)... with inmortal fire (i never was a lot into medieval even when they have their point but i am more an infantry general and this is more limited here).

The use of a serie license looks is going to help a lot the new title based in "Star Hammer", i am not a lot into Galactica but looks great... FOG has his own historical taste but add some fantasy with history add more variety to game.... and is possible add a lot of armies.

-King in the North (with his allies)
-Dragon Queen (maybe my fav army with all that "japanese" infantry and savage cavalry... + dragons )
-Lannister (and allies)
-King Stannis (with mercenaries)
-King Renly "the flower"
-King Kraken
-The Valley
-Dorne
-White walkers... winter is coming
-The free cities, here are many options to create a good mixed army

And you can add specific armies covering houses outside the main army as allies... Bolton, Frey, Tyrell (in the end is basically Renly army without a small part) even the bandits.

Well, lets see if test goes fine and we have game soon™
