Hoplite Phalanxes and Macedonian Phalangites

In the game, when facing Epirot and Magna Graeca Greeks - and Carthaginians we occasionally find ourselves fighting the Hoplite and Macedonian Phalanxes.

The Hoplite Phalanx differs from the Macedonian one in that rather than a wall of pikes its a wall of shields.

Thinking about this lead to this train of thought:

If we could create formations, couldnt we make one for Triarii were they cluster very close together. And if we could create animations they could hold their shields up so they overlap - finally adding them as a new unit so they dont replace the origional Triarii would actually make an accurate representation of a Hoplite Phalanx. And if Slitherine were to edit the Triarii model so they didnt have the headress it would be even cooler (though that is in no way a necescity)

Now, I havent really had a look at the *.txt files, but i have had a look at the excell file in the data folder (the name escapes me) and it looks to me that making new formations could be a possibility - The animations im not so sure on however.

So my question! Could our best and brightest find a way to do this?? I will almost certainly be looking for a way, but i think my attempts will be limited by the fact im working on v.02 of my textures - too many projects, too little time :(

Ave Grimsta,

Still up, do you never sleep?

Good job on the reskins, really impressive?

I like the ideas expressed in this topic. You've been thinking again!!!

I've been playing with the "Dummy General". How about Praetorian Cavalry? A new elite cavalry squad?

A forest of pikes and the nightmare for cavalry. Frontal charge is no use, it seems.
I'm looking forward your remodelled phalanx to appear!!

edit
excuse me, I try to quote from english wikipedia without knowing its image is from RTW.
I should be carefull.

Well spotted, good link! That's quite an amazing picture, isn't it?

Sorry for my remark about you typing in Japanese characters in your posts.

Ave tora_tora_tora,

I'm so pleased that you weren't offended by my remark. I was very tired and wasn't thinking too clearly.

Roman history is a fascinating subject. They claim to be able to trace their lineage back to the Trojans, modern thinkers tend to dismiss this as wishful thinking. You have to remember they worshipped primitive gods and were brought up on myths and legends. Good luck with your studies. If I can be of any help, please feel free to ask.

Please call me spedius.
