Later Periods for FOG?

Has anyone experimented with the FoG mechanism and applied it to later periods such as ECW or Seven Years War?
Does it work?
Do people think the basic FoG mechanism is abstract enough to be pushed into later periods?
Thanks

I havn't tried it , but I don't see why it shouldn't do as good a job a DBR did for DBM, and still be completely compatible.
For example
Hugenot currsaiers are cataphracts, superior, drilled, pistol, sword - where pistol is is the same as lance except lance doesn't count against it and it does count against steady spear and pike.
"supported shot" are just BGs containing pike and MF, or LF, with arquebus or musket. With an exception to the permitted formation rule to allow the pike to be deep while the shooters aren't. You could probably word it so you can have the 2nd rank of shooters lined up by the rear pike.
"commanded shot" are just BGs containing MF with arquebus or musket and cavalry or cataphracts.
You need some extra weapon types - arquebus and musket for shooting, pistol for impact, and some extra artillery types and rules for limbers.

I agree--it should work well. Tercio might work like an orb formation.
I have 10mm figures for TYW Swedish and Tilly's army just waiting for the right rules. These would be it

I teach military history and plan on adapting FoG for a big Napoleonic battle we do every year. I think the ++/-- combat mechanism will be very easy for my students to understand. There will be some adaptations (CMT to form an emergency square and such).

I understand from a chat with Simon Hall that some of the authors (e.g. Simon) originally developed many of the FOG mechanisms as draft Napoleonic rules. The CMTs were a bit more complex and related to training - e.g. conscript / drilled / veteran / elite and various Napolenic manoeuvers - form square, deploy to line, form column, etc.

Down here in Somerset/Dorset, have tried using the basic FOG mechanisms in 1500-1700 games, with adapted CMT factors and POAs in shooting/impact/melee, to reflect mixed formations of pike/shot and the improvements in range/effectiveness of gunpowder weapons. The games have been enjoyable and successful. I think the overall simplicity of the mechanisms may prove to be adaptable to later periods still.
