What happens when you go above 99 turns? It is possible in the editor, but it shows red, though that happens when you set experience in a unit above a certain point, but it still keeps that amount of experience.
No one has made a scenario with more than 99 turns that I can see, but I would like to know if it is possible.

It is possible, but ingame you just can see 99 at the main bar.

If you use the cheat to add turns to one of the big 99 turn scenarios the counter just displays the last two digits however in ither places like the 'save game' file it says the crrect number

A number of years ago I made a (not very good) one with 200 turns. AFAIK all the scripts and stuff looked fine.
