Frontal Assault going backwards

Does the Frontal Assault strategy allow moves to the rear in the first turn?
Let's say a chap chose the Frontal Assault strategy, and found two large batteries in front of him, and wasn't inclined to advance to his doom. What are his options?
The rules say "The player’s units may not wheel, change facing or make a formation change during their 1st turn."
There doesn't appear to be any restriction on a move to the rear, as long as the unit stays facing the front. Is that intentional, or an oversight?

An oversight!
While a frontal assault can elect not to move units forward at full speed- or may even stand still, going backwards seems against the spirit of an assault.
Unless anyone has an good argument against, I'll amend the final version to prevent any 'full frontal retreating' in the 1st turn.

Does this also mean artillery can't deploy? That would appear a bit odd. Certainly I can understand the restriction balancing the benefits for other troops but not artillery.

Under the current version limbered artillery would have wait until turn 2 to limber.

do you mean Unlimber? as limbered artillery surely does not have to limber?
