Andy Ellis Feudal Castillian
- Cheap Navarese Rip off

Pete Dalby Ilkhanid Mongol
- Mr Dalby's usual fanny about army but it least it can have some knights

Dave Morrisson Ghurid Afgan
- Never heard of them, Ghilmen and DF

Phil Powell Feudal Navarrese
- Proven winner

Malcolm Gordon Komnean Byzantine
- Varangians. Well that's it really

Bob Middlemist Later Sicillian
- Lots of knights, like it

Graham Carroll Feudal Catalan/early Crown of Aragon
- Points taken away from the real fighters by silly moogs

Roger Pitfield Tuareg
- Erm, I think this is going to get hurt

David Fairhurst seljuk Turk
- Well its got steppe

Lynda Fairhurst Dailami
- You would have thought they'd have learnt at Burton, maybe why Dino is recognisable by his absence

Craig Byron Feudal Catalan/early Crown of Aragon
- Moogs

Martyn Simpson Ghaznavid
- Nellies and ghilman, could be tough

Dave Ruddock Early Grenadine
- A proven runner up

Graham Briggs Later Sicillian
- Lots of knights, what's not to like (except Graham)

Christopher Proudfoot Ilkhnid Mongol
- Like pete but not as good

Mike Ulrich Post Latin Byzantine
- Like this army but not with only armoured knights

Keith Pullen Later Sicillian
- Wall of knights again

John Patrick Ilkanid Mongol
Like Chris, but a bit better

Ade Ball Feudal Naverrese and Aragonese
- Excellent choice

S teve Murton Feudal Catalan/Early Crown of Aragon
- Another Spanish lookalike

Paul Johnson Georgian
- Not what it was in 7th edition, well pooh actually

David Bannister Early Grenadine
- The understudy comes out on his own. To understudy him

Kevin Ellis Later Crusader
- Loads of knights and some crappy foot, d'oh

Jon Akers Komnenan Byzantine
- Again with the Varangians

Graham Evans Arab Conquest
Hoping not to have to charge anything except bow cav. I think this will come unstuck, unless everybody decides to charge it (dailami excepted who should at the earliest opportunity)

Dave Finnigan Dailami.
- See notes above

And yet good enough to have won Schilton recently....can Paul repeat it's success?

Paul likes 'unusual' armies. The surprise factor sometimes works

And I can never resist having a dig at him

Cheers Andy for doing the hard slog of list checking yet again.

Only one elephant army - hurrah! I thought Ghaznavid might be a more common choice given the quantity of knights around.

Phil Cheap Navarese rip off we will see,and to put the record right the Feudal castillian is a proven winner not Navarese i won with it last year.

And yet there is only 1 army listed here that has been forged in the recent competition arena...

Methinks he doth protest too much.

So this year I decided to commit a lot of time and thought to my army choice. I play tested a number of the possible armies, I tried them against different armies, I considered the right blend of troops to give as many options as possible, i devised tactics to fight all the other armies using my narrowed down list of three which included the elephant strong ghaznavids and a heavy on knights option and then having spent several weeks making my mind up I went looking for the right figures and then accidentally opened up the boxfile with my pretty snow based Huns in it....ooooh they haven't been out for years.......................... Hence Ilkhanid ffffing Mongols...........Arghhhhh!

What better reason for choosing your army than they look nice and have not used them for years. Sadly I suspect they might take little longer to get used to than the Ghaznavids...

Well, Varangians were good enough from around the millennium until 1204....not that permanent fortifications may have had a part in this success.

Hi guys,

As the banter and name calling has really started in earnest, here's the Round 1 draw to fan the flames even more and to sort out whether the Navarrese proven winners can best the Catalan Spanish lookalikes!

Image

The timetable for the weekend is as follows:-

Image

The doors open at 8am and breakfast will be available based on the details that Tim P has already sent. FoGAM is in the Hall this year as per the attached plan - so you know your opponent, you know where your tables are, so just get sat down and start playing at 9am or earlier if you both agree!!

Image

Safe journey to all, have a great weekend and may all your dice rolls be 6's (unless it's a Poor BG when a 5 will do!)

Don

Don't assume a bye. David Cutner is a late replacement. So I assume its Dave Morrison vs David Cutner.

I've just emailed Don to confirm that David will be attending. The draw might need to be re-done anyway as I believe Linda and Craig are both from Oxford?

Great that we've avoided the bye.

I note Briggs and Powell have an easy draw...
