Since during this period firearms were notoriously inaccurate and used at short range against dense targets Not many troops using shields to defend themselves against bow fire. I propose the death roll from shooting could be modified by the type of target.

0 Heavy foot, determined foot, Horse, Mob
+2 Light foot, Light horse, deployed artillery
+1 Everything else

The Death Roll was extensively considered when the rules were written and I do not think any change is necessary.

I agree. Bows would become much too powerful against a technology that replaced them.
