Hi Dudes
my name is hurly and i consider myself an average player albeit an experienced one as I have played all Version and DLC of this game.
I never played on another Difficulty as the Vanilla Colonel Settings (from patch 1.20 onwards with 1.20 rules and sometimes Reform units which basically gives me more peace of mind than anything as I almost never use it anyway.
I'm a streaky (as i play for a few months and then let game rest for a few as well) and pretty casual player not to strategic and mostly very impatient to finish a scenario and then approach the next one. So i am often way too aggressive and undisciplined and will get burned for that with heavy losses or have to use unnecessary prestige to save the day. Just in short I'm just like you only worse
Inspired by a little talk between braccada and goose about Afrika Korps and the Achievement "Italian Challenge" or whatever its called by Steam (i don't use steam) and if it's possible to do it on Rommel I became a little bit curious what this Rommel thing is all about. So I looked up how to unlock the Extra Difficulty Levels via Regedit and then started to play a little bit on Rommel.
Let me add I have finished the Afrika Korps Campaign at least twice on Colonel (before and after 1.20 Rules) and also added an extra turn with the Italian Challenge on Rommel and finished it as well.
So this is anything but a blind playthrough, in fact I would say I know Afrika Korps better than any other Campaign in the Panzer Corps Realms.
I expected to get my ass kicked pretty quickly and had no real expectations how far I can go. Also I did not save very often on the early levels and I did not bother to save replays as well (Since i still want you to have a replay for each Scenario I had to finish a few late game saves again to get a save possibility later on, I will mark these ones and tell you from which turn it is kind of articial as in not exactly the original run. Of course these ones are still played in serious way and not just hush hush to get it done.) Well what can I say It went way better than I expected though and once I got past Alam Halfa I sensed there may be a chance to see India sometime. So root for me as the Underdog trying to do something he has never done before or loathe me for my exhuberance to even dare to try it. That's up to you but I will appreciate you following my quest anyway
Due to my installments of the Game at home I also used an approach that was quite unusual.
On weekdays I played the Game on one PC in the Living Room that is attached to our TV. But my wife gets grumpy when I block the TV on weekends so I played a parallel Run on my Office Comp on these days trying to solve the Scenarios a little bit different.
So I will post replays for both runs at least from Gazala Line onwards. (Some early scenarios there will be only one replay as I think it makes no sense to recreate a replay from a level where I saved just once at the start of the scenario.)
So these are the Ground Rules
Afrika Korps (No Blind Playthrough)
Italian Challenge (which means you can buy only Italian Units, but you can upgrade any German or Allied Units you pick up on the way, e.g the starting Panzer II can be upgraded to a Flammpanzer or later on to Tiger or Tiger 2 or a Crusader can get upgraded to German as well, but you can not buy completely NEW UNITS that are not Italian)
Rommel Difficulty (never played on that Level or any other than Colonel before, so that adds some kind of blind Playthrough flavour)
1.20 Rules and Reform Units is activated all other Settings are the preset ones
I will play two campaigns parallel the first one gets no special name the other one which in real time lags a bit behind (played only on weekends) is named Team Red
I will give you a few words and comments for each scenario plus a replay file (or 2 later on)
I also add my lineups and upgrades and a few numbers which unit did what in each scenario (hope that does not get boring) and pickups of heroes, Starting Prestige Points and if I remember to look it up overstrength status for units
So here we go
First Scenario
Reconaissance in Force
Starting Prestige is a paltry 167 PP and One Unit Slot open
Starting Lineups (only Core Units)
Mg Battallion 2 German PzGren with Half Track Transport

MG Battalion 8 German PzGren with Half Track Transport

27th Brescia Italian Infantry

27th Brescia Italian Infantry

8th Bersaglieri Italian Bersaglieri with Truck

2. Abt Panzer German Panzer II C

1. Abt Panzer German Panzer III G

132nd Ariete Italian M13/40 Tank

132nd Ariete Italian M13/40 Tank
Recon Abt. 3 German 232 Rad Recon

PzJäger Abt.39 German 3,7cm Pak 36 + Truck

PzJäger Abt.605 German PzJäger 1B

1. Abt Arti 75 German 10,5cm + Truck

55th Artill Italian 10,5cm + Truck

Flak Batt 606 German SdKfz 10/4

Stormo Italian MC 200 Saetta

Reconaissance in Force (Notes)
with 167 PP to begin with you can not afford a really useful unit let alone a plane so I waited with both Runs til I harvested a bit of prestige and then I bought a an Italian Artillery 14,9 cm with Truck in Turn 5 resp 6 during both runs
Planes would make sense as well, but I know there will be no Airforce allowed in Scenario 2 so Arty is the Choice for Now
I. Artill Italian 14,9cm + Truck Total Cost 321 PP
