5. the historical scenario Fm Yarmuk 636 will be used instead of the byzantines vs arabs scenario.

Scroll down to the end for how the scoring works. It is a mature rules set that has worked very well for a number of years now.

In the meantime, it is a good idea to play a hot seat game of each scenario beforehand as games are not not open-ended like a dag game. forces are already in contact and the ability for manoeuvre is restricted to simulate the non existent command and control of the era. the scenarios are designed to illustrate the fundamental differences in the opposing armies as they interacted with each other historically in situational settings that make the confrontation balanced. (something that can not be achieved with dag games, as witnessed by the lists of 'best armies').

Challenges Table
each player is making 5 challenges and receiving 5 challenges.

for instance, davouthojo will challenge
1. fogman for 'byz vs sas',
2. batesmotel for 'arabs vs sas',
3. lordnytram for 'yarmuk',
4. londo for 'arabs vs nub'
5. iandavidsmith for 'kurans vs syrians

and he will be receive challenges from
1. fogman for 'kufans and syrians'
2. batesmotel for 'arabs vs nub'
3. lordnytram for 'yarmuk'
4. londo for 'arabs vs sas'
5. iandavidsmith for 'byz and sas'

challengers are always side 2 (so that the receiving player can start playing right away). therefore when davouthojo challenges fogman for 'byz vs sas', he is sassanian. when he receives the challenge from iandavidsmith for 'byz and sas' he will be byzantine.

note that the mirror games are asymetrical (each player plays both sides of a scenario but against a different opponent), except for yarkmuk.

the loe scenarios are 12 turns in length while yarmuk runs 14.

no fog of war, no double moves.

Results

results are to follow this template:
"sassanians (fogman) 25/20 vs byzantines (davouthojo) 15/20
fogman 7.5 pts, davouthojo 12.5 pts
the byzantines were cowardly but still trapped the sassanians and won convincingly"

scoring is thus % of enemy losses converted to a 10 scale. it is possible to go over 10.

Don't blame you there , Rogue one definitely and even Force awakens are different .

the arabs focused on clearing the nubians off the left side of the map. heavy fighting in and around the oasis all game long.

sasanians (fogman) 29/53 vs arabs (lordnytram) 52/45

good combination of archery, dailamis and cataphracts overcame with much difficulty the arab spear wall in the centre. on the left, the sasanians were able to give ground slowly without a collapse. on the right, fortuitous archery stopped the arabs in their track and that was key.

The Persian levy infantry came off the hill to support their cavalry. But their cataphracts were swiftly defeated by the higher-quality Byzantine cataphracts (some very good dice were involved!) and the levies were swept away with them. The Persian flanking force had no time to do more than some archery.

the sasanians managed to retreat onto the hill largely intact but some lucky archery managed to disrupt their defensive line and the byzantines poured in. meanwhile the byzantine infantry got to the woods line on time to block the sasanian wing long enough.
