Evading Troops

I have been playing FOG for over two months and I love the game. I play with about five guys here in Colorado, we are all converted DBM guys we did not like the rules.
Anyway last night I played a game were I charged a unit of LF, they're variable move roll was a one. I rolled a six, I could have caught them except His LF landed in his MF he said they go through the other side. After reading the rules I accepted that. The problem I have is he said My charging units could not move their variable move they had to go their noraml move because with the extra move I couldn't catch the LF. I couldn't find that in the rules is this true. If so I could have reahced another unit and charged them but only with my extra move. So he had a win win with a bad die role and that did not sit well with me I should have gotten some advantage I feel.
If someone could clear this up for me that would be great.

You have to move your variable adjusted move. In this case that means you probably would have charged the MF the LF moved behind. Actually it is a typical tactic against shock troops to make them charge LF that then hides behind some solid troops that the shock troops end up charging.
