"Kill All" Scenarios

I really dislike the scenarios that require to kill XX enemies when XX is either all or nearly all of the enemy units present, like the Dunkirk and Kiev scenarios. Dunkirk I figured out by simply storming across the top of the map, setting a defensive line and letting the Allied units batter themselves against it while trying to escape. Not much fun, as any other strategy allows enough enemy units to escape to prevent meeting the victory condition. Kiev I'm still trying to figure out. I tried the North-South pincer, then a straight-forward West-East steamroll to the end of the map, and still couldn't kill enough units to meet the victory condition, even though most of my units had reached the end of the map and literally ran out of enemy units to destroy. These high-kill requirements are simply a boring grind that doesn't allow for much flexibility in tactics or strategy.

Hello,

Just so other people might see something different from only the negativity about these maps. Honestly is it really that bad? From my experience the kill units thing is really only a problem in either Dunkirk and/or Kiev. They have similar requirements in some of the other maps, Greece, Minsk and Smolensk but the requirements seem to flow more naturally with the scenario. ( for example the Minsk scenario, you reach the requirement before actually getting to Minsk so people don't mind? )

First of all i don't get why people say they think there is no strategy, just finishing off the units, and then they complain they couldn't finish the map because of some leftover guys. Then it seems to me you didn't plan your moves well enough. There was a hole in your defenses (in Kiev) and you left a 100km wide gap for Soviet units to pour through after you have taken the region so then you lose. Maybe you were very slow in trying to tackle the Soviet forces. Having Guderian's second Panzer in Kiev in November might be a problem when they should be going for Moscow. The Kiev mission plays really tight, the 30 turns is not lenient, and you have to plan everything quite well in order to finish the map. A lot of strategy. But if you just take it easy from the onset and then later on think you have enough time to take on all the units you're gonna lose. Having to kill all units on the map might represent you successfully tackling the tactical idea, surround and destroy the Russian forces withing a reasonable timeframe.

In Dunkirk clearing the last of the enemy forces really didn't take me more than 15-20 mins max, and again, if some of the enemy units are on the east of the map, and you fail to kill all of them, OF COURSE! You again left a huge gap in your lines, the enemy exploited that, or you were too slow in destroying them, the troops got delayed, and your attack on France is in danger of being too slow. Just retry the map, and this time use different tactics, try to play your best from turn 1 and make strategically sound decisions.

Personally i don't think it's such a big issue as some people claim it to be here, or that it's even bad at all. Like to see some people really explain what went wrong in their level and what their strategy/ unit placement was, instead of just blaming the designers for not being able to finish the mission. Then you can see if there actually is a problem. And if really need be, make some adjustments.

Just my 2 cents though this is a response to everyone, so not to anyone specific. No hard feelings and remember to enjoy the game. ;)

I wasn't negative, I like Blitzkrieg. Best DLC yet, just those scenarios are a bit botched.
BTW, I had Minsk and Smolensk firmly in my pocket and then had to hunt isolated units down. It wasn't that bad there, just awkward. Dunkirk only worked because I had ample time and full view of the map. In Kiev, I planned accordingly and killed all units in the salient and did not let any slip out. There are a couple of AA units and some conscripts left behind on the far east end of the map. They never went into action and I had to search for them with my Me109s. That's the difference between "kill all units" and "seize Kiev, crush the salient" as an objective. Without those issues, Blitzkrieg would be impeccable.
