I finally got around to continue with Unity of Command. It is time for the Stalingrad Campaign and this one was livestreamed so no reloading and all strategic missteps included :)

17 May 1942
A misjudged Soviet offensive at Kharkov strikes right into the teeth of main Axis force assembling there for the summer campaign. After a brief scare, Germans recognize the opportunity and move in for the kill.

9 July 1942 - With army group B in full swing along the Don, remaining Axis forces join the offensive. Soviet armies are in headlong retreat. There is not much they can do to prevent the Germans from taking the Don bend, and at Rostov, from kicking open the gate to the Caucasus.

25 July 1942 - Army group A races towards the oilfields in the Caucasus foothills. Soviet forces can offer little resistance, having just withdrawn from the Donbas under chaotic circumstances. Geography of the area presents a challenge for both sides, with vast distances making logistics difficult.

9 August 1942 - Stalingrad, nearly overlooked in the original campaign plans, turns into a focal point owning to the powerful symbolism of its name. Under Hitler's orders to take the city at any cost, German troops have no choice but to give it the best in an epic battle that may prove to be the turning point in the entire war.

Germans dispatch a mobile group from Stalingrad to Astrakhan on the Volga. Remnants of Soviet divisions gathering in that area must be prevented from becoming a renewed threat to the eastern flank of the invading Axis forces.

30 September 1942
After taking Stalingrad on the march Germans strike north to severe Moscow's links with Siberia and the Urals. Axis forces are in reasonabl shape, but the offensive cannot be mounted until supply catches up. Soviets, now under Zhukov, are given enough time to prepare multiple defensive belts.

12 October 1942
Axis forces succeed in making their way through the Caucasus passes, causing the Soviets to panic. In the ensuing chaos, the petrolium capital of Baku is within reach, even to the threadbare force at von Mackensen's disposal. A victory here could change the outcome of the entire war.
