Can somebody point me at the rule that controls the movement of ranks in a mixed armament BG, such as Medium infantry, spears in one rank and bows in rear rank, there are obviously times when you want your archers in the front rank i.e in terrain where only front rank can fire, defending field fortification or just standing on a flank duffing up a phalanx or two

Its the normal expansion and contraction rules, there are none for exchanging ranks, so its very difficult to do

Hmmm. so expand the archers to single file and then contract the spearmen to a rear double file??

They shoot as if front rank so it should not be a problem

Not quite Jacques. See page 88. So 2nd rank shooters cannot shoot in for example Villages, Plantations, Woods etc

I found out an hour ago .....so stand corrected but as one of the last FOGAM players in Belgium it is hard to play regularly and keep all this in mind
