I try to start a TCP/IP game more than 2 full hours now. We double checked IP numbers open ports and so on. Its so frustrating... :(
Perhaps its because I have the java patch and my opponent has not? (He tried to install that but it wont work for him)
And we play per email without issues, so I dont suspect its because of the java patch.
Please help us, thanks!

Usually it is router that causes hosting problems, if you try run without a router does it work then?

You should also make sure you don't have any software firewalls (like the build in Windows one) running. They might cause problems too.

Well, I cannot play without my internet router (fritz box), but until now it never had issues with online games.
I enabled CEaW and the ports 6770 and 6771 in the Win XP firewall, do you think it could help to disable the firewall altogether?

If you have both a hardware and software firewall running, you will need to set up the ports on both of them.

Hey !
Me and my friend have the same problem. Two days ago we started play in Commander. We tried to connect and it worked well. We finished few turns and we had crash to desktop. After CTD we were never able to established connection once again.
We desperatly want play if there is any help possible :)

Additional: We installed java fix today.

If you were connected then there should be nothing stoping you connecting again unless your firewall/router has changed. You may need to get some help to set up your firewalls correctly from the net. It's really not simple for some. E.g. we've not been able to get the router here to allow Internet play, but we can test Lan games.

We resolved our problem :) Nothing changed in our settings but my friend's provider has problems with deliver good quality connection.
We find out that if connection speed is below 3000 kbps the game only try to connect :(

Now we try to find out how to load saved game
