Looking for a MP Skirmish Open Battle, Large Force game with two even, but historical enemies for a couple of SJ newbies who are P&S vets.
Finding the armies a bit of a mystery.
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

???
A skirmish is a random map. And is automatically even.

Maybe you mean 2 factions which existed historically and are not apart in terms of diversity and tech?
I don't think such exists.
Factions were born at different times, and died out over time until there was only one king of the hill.
And technology progressed differently.

Evenness only exists playing the fictional Aoi vs Akai (literally Blue vs Red).
I like to categorise the army makeups into 4 periods.
The 1st period is the earliest one where the mounted samurai are horse archers.
The 2nd period has mounted samurai as lancers.
The 3rd period is when matchlock warriors have been introduced.
The 4th period is when all ashigaru units switch from warrior to medium foot.

There is a very big difference in playstyle between 3rd and 4th period.

Thanks for the reply but it looks as though I did not explain what I am after very well.

I was looking for two armies that would be a good match up for a MP game using a random map.
By 'good match' I mean the armies are similar but each may have a slight advantage in some respect and the skill of the player would take precedent over the punch of the army

The reason I posted this was due to a MP Pot Luck Random Map mounted army of 5700 being matched against a predominantly foot army of 13000, so very uneven and one-sided.

Looks like my opponent has solved the problem and set up a new game for us to play using something akin to the above ' good match '

The forces tossed up by the Pot Luck system were Ming v Manchu. With the disparity in numbers we dumped the game at the start so no AAR sorry.

Was it early Manchu with all horse?
Those guys still have a chance against Ming if played properly.

The disparity in numbers is because the game uses a points system. The more valuable the troops, the more points they cost, so the side with the more valuable troops will always have lower numbers. It does not mean that the battle is unbalanced.

That said, it is hard to beat a missile-based infantry army with a non-lance-armed cavalry army.
