Through some random internet browsing I came upon the following page from Slitherine website - slitherine . com / d&f_Armies
Scrolling down I came upon the short description of the faction "Early South Slavs". Among many inaccuracies, some utter gibberish stands out, in particular the following sentence : " Although of Sarmatian origin the Serbs and Coats rapidly assimilated with their Slav subjects. This list covers the South Slave armies from the 6th century until the 12th century AD" I mean what in the...what kind of company is this ? First of all you make an error when naming a nation ?! It should be CROATS, as their country is Croatia, not coats, they are not clothing. Then you make an error when naming one of the largest cultural and ethno-linguistic groups, the Slavs, naming them slaves. And to top it all you spew a blatant gibberish naming the Serbs, and Croats : Sarmatian in origin, who assimilated with their subjects - the Slavs ?! Utter nonsense.
Please have this insulting text removed or corrected. If this is an even slightly professional developer company, such a thing would not be published.

Serbs and Croats, two Slavic nations, settled in the Balkan peninsula in early middle ages, following the great migratory expansion of the Slavic tribes of late antiquity. The above statement written on your website is completely incorrect and degrading for the Serbian and Croatian nations.

If we want to be precise, the academical consensus nowadays is that the migration period didn't consist of huge ethnically cohese masses of people which migrated and displaced the locals (as was the belief in the 19th and early 20th century), but of smaller groups which settled in certain regions and integrated with the more numerous locals (besides a few peripheral exceptions). In some cases they ended up adopting the language of the locals (Lombards and Franks for instance, which quickly adopted a romance language derived from Latin) while in others they were able to impose their own language (Anglo-Saxon England, for instance - and Slavic Europe).

That is to say that the Serbs and Croats as we intend them in the Dark Ages weren't a cohese people which migrated from the east and ended up displacing and replacing the locals completely - modern Croatia and Serbia were inhabited and urbanized, of course, prior to the slavic migrations.

This is of course my personal view on the subject. As for the Sarmatian origin hypothesis, I must admit I don't know much about that. The text you find offensive was written several years ago along with the developers of the game. I'll see if it's possible and reasonable to change it. Maybe we'll do some research

Certainly, these migration could be considered as smaller groups settling a given area over a certain time period.But surely there had to be some sense of ethnic and cultural belonging.
Serbs and Croats, since their earliest settling of the Balkan peninsula (6th century), are attested as two distinct Slavic tribes, who assimilated the local populations in the years after their arrival.In the following centuries the First Serbian Principality of the Vlastimirovići emerged. It evolved into a Grand Principality by the 11th century, and in 1217, the Kingdom and national church (Serbian Orthodox Church) were established, under the Nemanjići. In 1345, the Serbian Empire was established: it spanned a large part of the Balkans.
This Sarmatian story, I think has no place here, in the connection with early south Slavs.
