Pre-deployed friendlies

When you start a scenario in a campaign, there are already some assigned friendly units deployed. On some occasions these pre-deployed friendlies end up becoming part of my core force for the next scenario, in other occasions not. What governs this rule? I am about to start Operation Sealion in the original Panzer Corps and I am starting with 5 pre-deployed Fallschirmjager which I want to retain as part of my core force for the next scenario (if they survive).

Thanks in advance
Halder

it depends on what the game developer wanted to happen, from memory you do not carry the Fallschirmjager over, usually you are told to be careful with Aux units if they are to carry over.
Sorry

There is a visual indication on the counter for strenght points. In general there are two types of units: Core and Aux (only for this mission) indicated by gold or silver frame. Normally those predeployed units are Aux units and there is no way to get them into your core. However sometimes High Command (or the map designer) decides to give you additional units that way. The only example in the Wehrmacht campaign I can remember is Poland though. Most of your predeployed are part of core there.

In the other campaigns you get core units more often. So watch out for that golden frame around the strength points. Moreover in Operation Sealion (the DLC campaign) there are special AUX units, that will show up on later maps, if they survive. So these are kind of in between units. Not part of your core and so you can't control upgrades or deployment, but you still wan't to keep them alive. That mechanic is not part of the original campaign though!
